I believe in transcending the barriers of language that exist in our mind and in our world.
Starting August 2013, my mental health started to become worse and worse. I was diagnosed with a mild depression. I went to therapy, but I wanted to do more for myself.
One day, my friend and I were looking for something to do on a quiet evening. We discovered the Beginners Mind Zen Center, where I learned about zen, meditation, and mindfulness. I attended to several of their day-long sitting retreats, even though as a deaf person, I didn't understand fully what was going on. However, I learned the power of mindfulness meditation, of sitting silently, which greatly transformed my inner world. Through consistent practice, I experienced less stress, less worrying, gratitude for what I have, longer periods of focus, and great self-awareness.
Shortly after, I also discovered that there aren’t enough resources about zen, mindfulness, and meditation in American Sign Language (ASL). That is why I started Well-Being with Matt, a place where I provide videos with those resources in ASL.
I believe my visual videos is suitable for everyone, not just those who know ASL. Sometimes we need a break from the noise in the world - this is where the visual aspect of my videos come in. The goal of my videos is to make it universally understood- by deaf, hard of hearing, non-ASL users, and more.
Mindfulness is not limited to the ear (auditory) - that is what I discovered and want to share with all of you.
While you are on Well-Being with Matt, my goals for you is to:
Learn tools that will help you become more mindful, aware, and focused
Learn to accept things as they are, while consciously making decisions
Find ways you can connect deeply with yourself, cultivating the inner wisdom and potential within
Find a support system with people who are like you and I
May my videos bring you inner peace, clarity, and understanding.
May the Mindfulness be with you!

If you don't know ASL, don't fear the language barrier - I believe you and I can still connect on a deeper level where language does not exist (not even ASL).
If I can transcend it (I do it every day), so can you! See below for resources on learning ASL and the deaf community (last updated 4/8/19).
